altering paper results

the dozen or so students
in my book class
laid out their 10 favorite papers that they
had altered in some way,

everyone took turns talking about the mutilations.

my broiled paper paled in comparison to
paper that was toasted, baked, torched, and
cooked with oils, drizzled with brown sugar,
and combusted in a kiln.

waxed
(i hadn't thought of that, but the
waxed sheen was gorgeous...i will be waxing
paper for sure)
paper
(duh! waxed paper! why didn't i
think of that??!)

lots of punctured,
stabbed, cut, sewn, ripped, torn,
and shredded examples.

one student (an art ed major)
even used a
Bedazzler...
(i forgave her, she has an 11 year-old daughter.)

we discussed our "book as a journey" ideas,
most unclear as to what to "pack" between
the covers of their books.

such a stimulating environment
