headlands state park

unusual for temperatures to be warm enough for a walk on the beaches in ohio at this time of year.
this sign says "no pet allowed".....does that mean one pet?
i followed the sandy path through the grasses
up and over the ridge, to the beautiful lake erie waters

as always, the headlands light house was the star!

hippie peace freaks

my son posted this image on Facebook.....
i can so relate.
i have always loved the kaleidoscope effects of this type image.
the tie-dye colors, the symmetry.
would love to be able to make a quilt similar to this....
....let's all say it together....
"peace and love"

tales of a sea gypsy.....st. maarten

we had reached the last day....st. maarten
another docking area that has been modernized
and rebuilt since i was last there more than 15 years
ago.
i passed through the new shopping area, and
took a taxi to orient beach.  when i arrived, i was
disappointed that it wasn't more beautiful than any
beach i had visited in the past few days.  (my recollection
was that THIS beach was the most beautiful in all of
the caribbean).
the public area of this beach had expanded and was
jam packed with 3-4 deep lounge chairs for as far as the
eye could see.  the seas were rough, the seaweed was
plentiful, and there was wall-to-wall people (in various
states of being clothed)
so within an hour, i was back at the ship taking the
water taxi to the old dock in phillipsburg.

i love visiting the islands in the caribbean
but am saddened that tourism has changed them,
and will probably continue to change them.
the interiors of the islands, where life is less dependent
upon tourists, is of much more interest to me.

my camera died....another camera that has bitten the dust.....what is it with me and cameras this year??
but there's always the iPhone, used here on the next day in san juan

tales of a sea gypsy...st. kitts

next stop, st. kitts.

this is a lovely little island that enjoys agriculture and depends on tourism.
there is flat land and mountains, beaches and forests.  a wonderful
combination.

debarking the ship, i was stunned to see the changes to st. kitts, at
least from the tourism aspect.  there was a modern, yet colorful, shopping
area which greeted us....not like the old st. kitts of 20 years past.

but after a walkabout, i discovered the old st. kitts that i remembered.

the black sand beach on the caribbean side provided a relaxing afternoon, with a picnic lunch at cathy's beachside snack bar. (the elvis love shack bar and grill was closed)

back in old st. kitts, and a walk through a savory neighborhood.

the little monkeys are a big hit with the tourists....this one was chewing on sugar cane.
as we sailed away, an awesome sunset!  so long, st. kitts
