my BFF Liz has a beautiful quilt that was a delight to my eyes.
i admired and photographed its detail so i can enjoy it over and over.
it kept me warm and made me smile.  i wish i knew the pattern.

SMOKin....

i know better than to think that i can recreate those tobacco barn photos that were lost, but while in kentucky for the past few days, i couldn't resist trying.
as we drove to hazel, we passed the same wonderful barns that i saw last year.
one of my favorites was the "leaning barn" filled with tobacco.  i took a few shots and then walked down the road to shoot the neighboring barn.  i knew i some explaining to do when i saw the truck pull into the driveway......the owner.  and he wanted to know who was on his property.  oh-oh.
i told him that i had a strong interest in tobacco growing and the barns.  he seemed convinced that i was not the tax man nor was i looking for his still.  but i was out of there!
then just outside murray, we saw the smoke.
the barns were closed up and smoke was pouring out of the roofs.  it permeated the air.  it was a great sight.

happy days

these are some of the images from the roll
of film in the brownie hawkeye camera
"from my darling hubby"

at least 50 year old film....processed with
excellent results.

i'm guessing this was a new year's party.....there is a calendar on the table in the picture below, but i can't focus in on the print.  darn.
the clock on the stove reads 11:30...almost a new year or perhaps a new decade?

citra solv

while buying supplies for an upcoming online encaustic class, i found citra solv on the shelves.
i had heard about the fabulous backgrounds that result from using this product to dissolve the ink on pages of national geographic magazines (i'm sure this isn't the only magazine, but apparently the vivid images and the texture of the pages work best)
yesterday afternoon was spent over the kitchen sink, making a mess.

later i couldn't resist using one of the pages for a collage.
is this done?
it's always hard to know when a collage is finished.

seas the day

more dreamy images from the grainy,
light-streaked, out-of focus pictures
produced just months ago with the
brownie hawkeye "from my darling hubby"

there definitely is a timeless quality to these images...

out of the ashes

out of the ashes
from "things lost in the fire"
the processed film.

during the summer i experimented
with the kodak brownie hawkeye camera
"from my darling hubby"

images from camp luther appeared
though streaked with light
still recognizable to me...

evoking even more response
with their dreamlike quality

bundles

a year or two ago,
fellow blogger and new york artist
seth apter of the altered page
called out for the creation of "bundles."
(you can also find more information about
this project in the may/june 2010 issue
of Cloth Papers Scissors magazine)

http://thealteredpage.blogspot.com/

bundles of papers
which would weather and change the appearance
of the materials within those bundles.
later, the materials could be used to make art.

and so i created a bundle (filled with the spirit of creativity)
and hung it near the tibetan prayer flags so that
i can see it from my kitchen window.

there is a buddist thought that the spirit remains
even after decay, that the wind will carry spirits far and wide.

when i talked about this with liz,
we decided that i need a day that allows me to indulge in my fantasies.

we're calling it
"whimsday"

la sagrada familia

after losing all of my files from the past 2 years,
i have resorted to revisiting old saved files.

La Sagrada Familia is one of Antonio Gaudi's most famous works in barcelona.  it is a giant basilica that has been under construction since 1882.

barcelona's la sagrada familia was under construction
both times i was there....it is still being worked on.
(anticipated completion is 2026...100 years after Gaudi's death)

at the time, i was not happy with the scaffolding and
big cranes disturbing the skyline,  but looking back,
there are some beautiful and colorful lines created.

exquisite curvilinear forms are found in the interior of the building
gaudi's art nouveau influence is apparent
