seeing things her way.....Helen Levitt
in trying to locate suitable images by helen levitt
to commemorate her birthday,
i ran across this wonderful site
it gives "street photography" worthy credit
as a visual record of our world
i am particularly interested in her early
work (B&W) on the streets of the city

the gates
i recently was reminded of the christo project "the gates"
when i saw the current AT&T commercial
where orange fabric is rolled over the hoover dam,
the arch in st. louis and wraps around las vegas.
i have few regrets about things i have not done in my life, but i must admit
if i had had an inkling of how important the projects of jeanne-claude and christo
were, i would have made the road trip to NYC to see "the gates" back in 2005.
now all i have is a sample of the fabric (brought back to me by someone who did make the trip)
and wonderful photographs produced by people from all over the world.
wrapped up in my own art projects at the time i did not see the display
first hand.
the photos of those glorious orange flags whipping through central park,
all the more brilliant against the snow
(was that coordinated or planned? i wonder)
still make me happy.
