d-day reenactment 4 of 4 (the bridge battle and the storming of the beach)

as the day began, reveille was sounded and the troops were inspected, in both allied and axis camps.
later in the morning, a battle at the bridge took place.  the french resistance were there to employ a smokescreen for the german guards, as the US troops hid in the surrounding woods.  many wounded were moved to the first aid tents.
the finale for the D-day reenactment occurred on the beaches.  the landing craft spilled out the GI's who crawled up the beach, trying to reach the bluffs where the Germans were hunkered down.  it was a bloody fight, as the mines exploded and spitfire T-51's bombed the beach.

D-day reenactment 1 0f 4 (encampment)

the excitement has been building for me and today it is finally here..the D-Day reenactment on the beaches of Conneaut, Ohio, my home town for the first 30 years of my life.
i will be posting different aspects of the 2 day events.  i have been told that the Lake Erie beaches of Township Park, are uncannily similar to Omaha Beach.

today the encampments were setting up, in preparation for the battles to come.
there were allied camps and axis camps.  later in the day, german vehicles pass in review, and the Road to Victory battle.
i was surprised to learn that in these reenactments, the small battles are won by whichever side grabs the flag!  so, there is excitement...who will win the battle?
