on conneaut creek

whenever i think of conneaut, my hometown, the images stored in my head are always a bit underexposed and grayed down, unless i fast forward to july and august at the beach...those are the high contrast days, the brilliant blue sky images.
even in the fall, when the leaves have turned, it is the rare day that i don't have to bump up the color.(literally and figuratively)
i realized this when looking at these images.....still dear to me in the location, yet lacking the vibrancy that the right light gives.
that is exactly how it is when i go home to visit, dear to me, yet lacking......where is the switch to turn on the light?

D-day reenactment 1 0f 4 (encampment)

the excitement has been building for me and today it is finally here..the D-Day reenactment on the beaches of Conneaut, Ohio, my home town for the first 30 years of my life.
i will be posting different aspects of the 2 day events.  i have been told that the Lake Erie beaches of Township Park, are uncannily similar to Omaha Beach.

today the encampments were setting up, in preparation for the battles to come.
there were allied camps and axis camps.  later in the day, german vehicles pass in review, and the Road to Victory battle.
i was surprised to learn that in these reenactments, the small battles are won by whichever side grabs the flag!  so, there is excitement...who will win the battle?

my grandmother's house

in 50 years, my grandmother's (now my mother's) house has not changed.
how wonderful to have something so stable to go home to.
