we regret to inform you

two years ago, i participated in a collage class at SCAD
i was looking for a meaningful personal reference for expression.

after three biopsies, i knew the scare (and the pain)
associated with surgery on the breast.

using my scanner i did mock "mammograms"...

fabric processed with a chemical to allow ink jet printing
served as my image transfers
and the prints were mounted on canvas.

in these examples, i wanted to show both the fear and pain
associated with women's health care.

enough, already

in october 2009, while attending a collage workshop at snow farm,
i imitated the colors of the season in my papers, and found color in the yarn building where felting classes were being held.

our collages where made from the papers that we had painted, and magazine cutouts.

between the material and cosmic worlds

Whirling Dervish (wurl-ing dur-vish) n. 1. A mystical
dancer who stands between the material and cosmic
worlds. His dance is part of a sacred ceremony
in which the dervish rotates in a precise rhythm.
He represents the earth revolving on its axis while
orbiting the sun. The purpose of the ritual whirling
is for the dervish to empty himself of all distracting
thoughts, placing him in trance; released from
his body he conquers dizziness.

the book class this morning
is on flag books. this
painting is double sided
which will suit the flags
quite well.
i have painted the paper
for the spine in similar
fashion with inked
outlines so that there is
a cohesiveness to the two
papers,
the cover is a rich
aubergine/eggplant heavy
fibrey paper to cover the
boards.
oh, i do hope that my
measurements
work out correctly

i have been released from my
distracting thoughts, am
in a proper trance and have
conquered dizzyiness.
let's see what the book looks like!

the hole truth

the story was dramatic in the extreme, even before the young woman uncovered the whole truth

i have been experimenting with collage/ink and paints and always with a bit of thread to bind it together
i think i am finally loosening up!
this piece actually started out as a newspaper transfer of an old romance novel.
that has completely disappeared beneath the ink and paint.
the envelope that was demolished in the postal machinery gave me the final title
(there actually is a hole in the upper right corner where i tried to do an embroidery stitch...it almost destroyed my sewing machine!)

I am working toward my next "full moon dreamboard" due February 28....
watch for it!!
