the jar project

portland has an interesting installation going on right now.
the gallery on congress street looks sparse, with
rows of glass jars containing ephemera lining the 4 shelves along the wall.  lots of walking around space for viewers and participants to discuss the art.

there are jars filled with small toys, paper, marbles, liquids and canned vegetables.  probably old-fashioned hard candy.

it is aptly named "the jar project"

on 2 separate occasions i have walked to the installation site to get a closer view of the contents of the jars.  both times the gallery was not open, so i wistfully gazed through the window and hoped that next time i would gain admittance.
at my house, a jar project would contain (and does) sand from faraway beaches, stones, sea glass, buttons, and rubber bands.  cotton balls. and then there are the assorted screws, nails, paint, and plant food that fill jars housed in the garage.
i imagine everyone has saved jars of some kind....
what kinds of things fill your jars?

How fun...I would love to have that whole wall display in my home. I bought a mason jar lamp (blue) last week...still looking for the right shade.

i LOVE this. an artist friend used to do this years ago and each jar held little found things in a single color.

grouping turns even the humblest things into treasure.

do you know the collection a day website - same idea - SO cool...
