i ran across some of these photos that my father took in the late 60's early 70's,
the images are of the coal docks on lake erie
where coal is brought in by ore boats, loaded onto/into train cars
and is then transported by rail to the steel mills.
my grandfather worked as a security guard
at the pittsburgh and conneaut dock company
although my father was a railroad man,
he was not employed by the bessemer railroad
that ran the coal to pittsburgh.
after i graduated from high school,
i worked for a short time for the dock company in the computer department...
nothing like technology today ( i "keypunched" information onto cards
which were translated into meaningful information by the missing chads)
{somewhere there is a photo of me at the IBM keypunch machine}
after i was married, my husband worked at the bessemer
railroad, and in 2010
my brother is still involved with the process by
testing coal.
we have been a family of blue collar workers,
living a comfortable life thanks to this precious resource
COAL
