at backup files of photos and film scans from 6-7
years ago. it's such fun to run across
images that have been forgotten, or missing.
one of the CDs had childhood photos that i had
scanned, and suddenly i was 6 years old again
at my first piano recital.
i printed the photo just to see what it would look
like since there were creases on each side where it
had been folded ever so long ago.
although the flag book assignment is a week or two
away, i began to think about what and how to create
a flag book. i went to the trusted google search engine
and found some simple directions for the basic
flag book.
i have paraphrased them....not very precisely.
you can look up flag book and find numerous
references.
once you have determined the size of your book, cut
2 pieces of board for the covers, cover with decorative paper.
the spine of the book is an accordian...score cardstock
every 1/2" (measurements can be changed based on
your book size) and fold "accordian" style.
glue one edge of the front and back covers to the spine.
the "flags" are pieces of paper glued on to the spine...
the folds have 2 sides, each going in a different direction.
if the flag is glued to one side of the fold, it will go
in one direction, likewise, the opposite direction from
the other side of the fold.
when reading the book, the pages are disjointed fragments
until the spine is fully opened (a "whooshing" or flapping
sound when opening and closing is also delightful)
these pages can be images, text, or a combination of both.
i divided the piano recital photo and pasted the pieces onto a
hastily prepared spine and....
Bob's your uncle!
...here is a mock up of a flag book.
