for a number of months, i have been involved in a planned "asparagus pick" in my hometown.
2 of us were arriving early in the week, one from wisconsin, one from michigan. i was coming in on thursday for a long weekend.
we met thursday evening, along with the two hometown guys,
the five of us sat on the deck until dark catching up on each other's lives.
3 beers and a pizza later, i said goodbye with plans to meet again at 8am. (ish)
at 8:06, i picked up the 2 fellows who were ready and we headed for the farm.
a quick lesson in picking and we were off. there were already 2 pickers out with buckets full.
it was going to be a good pick.
by 9:30 we had picked about 150 pounds of asparagus and we were ready to wash, sort, and bundle the "gus" for delivery to the markets.
it was the best of times.
tomorrow: same time, same place, same plan.
