the armchair traveler.barcelona...art

the best thing about Barcelona is the art
the second best is architecture
the contemporary art museum in Barcelona
made art come to life for me
the textures, the awareness that
the familiar, the commonplace everyday things
can be ART,
it is all in one's perspective.

the museum itself is spectacular
a modern, contemporary building in the midst of
a neighborhood of buildings hundreds of years old.
one of the first exhibits was an armoire piled with clothing,
crammed into it, spilling out of it.
next was a pair of pale green canvas espadrilles in a cardboard shoe box,
encased in a plexiglass cube, elevated on a podium.

my sister saw these exhibits, (thinking of her extensive wardrobe)
and excitedly exclaimed,   "I am an artist!!"
We both laughed, and that was when i realized that art, as art, was so subjective.

Tapies and Miro....i'll take the Tapies influence every time.
his use of detritus, dust, string and rags appeals to my interest in mixed media
