el san juan

because of the bike tour in puerto rico, our hotel in the heart of old san juan was not available for the last two nights of our stay.
we splurged and stayed at the el san juan resort and hotel in nearby isla verde.
i had stayed there on numerous visits to puerto rico more than a decade ago so i knew what a treat we were in for.
the lobby of the hotel is reminiscent of havana, or so i've been told.  the sparkle of the chandeliers is breathtaking, they are everywhere.
sheer curtains surrounded one of the sitting areas near the bar, creating a private, mysterious room where the "beautiful people" relaxed and drank and talked.

on our last evening, we enjoyed dinner at la piccola fontana and were treated to superb, if not somewhat overly attentive service.

an oasis on calle fortaleza

this morning liz and i strolled calle fortaleza to check out the casablanca hotel and rick's cafe.

i am surprised at all of the moroccan influences in old san juan, and was thrilled at the beauty of this intimate hotel.  the art works were magnificent, as were the furnishings.

toro saloo

the rain began to fall, and the toro saloo closed the umbrella tables down.
as if whisked away on a magic carpet, i found myself on the second floor of the restaurant
in a moroccan inspired room with pillows and candlelight.  lovely patterns were created on the silverware and i sank back and listened to the rain, dreaming of marrakech.

the posibility of i

my very first book making assignment was to make a quick, copy paper book.  for me, this turned out not to be so quick,
though this is a book i repeatedly come back to.
as a photographer, my intent was to use photos as the content in my books.
where does an idea begin?
at the time (2004) i was making b & w collages in an attempt to be "edgy"...my photography felt too obvious, but i could cut and paste to create another dimension.
i copied some collages that i had done, further layering with vellum sheets printed with words that i felt described me and also the collage.
here are a few pages from
"the possibility of i"

i.....

unfathomable
creativity

infinite possibilities.
