catching rays

a companion post to my soulmate and dear friend Liz's post
called "catching rays".
her beautiful site
ON THE WING
http://ej-onthewing.blogspot.com/ inspires me, pushes me.

here are 3 windows from a brief, shared life in paris,
too, too many years ago.
Liz guided me through the major cathedrals,  explained the flying buttresses,
taught me about suger's stained glass, and gave me an introduction
to the pure translucent colors of  jewel box windows.

these lessons were foundations for a love and appreciation of architecture,
color, shape and most of all, the importance of light.

slice and dice

on a snowy gray day, i am working on creating a collage.....
i don't know if it is inspiration or pure boredom that moved me to the
glue, paper, pens, etc.
let's assume it's the former.
when i begin a collage, i think i try too hard.  it is not easy
for me to spontaneously cut and paste.  i want a pleasing result, with color
and texture, shapes, and structure.  text adds to the excitement.
knowing when to stop is the most difficult decision.
this time, as in the past, i worked on 4 related pieces.  it seems easier to move
a shape or color between them to find the most harmonious placement.
when i was fairly happy with the results,  i peeled the glue from my fingers,
and took a photo.  then i realized that i could take it a step or two further,
and slice and dice in photoshop.
it was very similar to the paste and paper, because i just played
(and sometimes didn't know how i got to where i was....nor
would i be able to do it again) until it felt right.

1/11/11

today was to be the day that i opened my exhibition of books.
i had it planned for the past 15 months, thinking that within that amount of time,
i could (and would) produce enough handmade, handbound books to have a one man show
called " STACKS, one for the books"
(1 for the books on 1-11-11).

alas, today is the day, and i am not prepared.
New deadline date is now 11-11-11.
